Maji ni Uhai! (Water is Life!)

At 11:25 this morning of March 18th, 2010, history was made on the compound of the Chebaiywa Dispensary! The rumbling of big trucks could be heard as they began to roll on the compound to begin work on a long-awaited water project.

For many years we have talked about the dream of getting clean water to the clinic. A dynamic group from Iowa, called Spanda, jumped on board with the dream and began spearheading the fund-raising for the project. This week that dream of clean water is becoming a reality!

Funds have been raised for the drilling and sealing of the borehole. There are also funds for the purchase of a pump and the building of a pump-house. Before April is finished we will be able to access clean water from the pump. Fund-raising is currently going on to get the funds for the piping and plumbing that will bring running water right into the clinic treatment rooms.

I have to say that as I saw the huge trucks pulling onto our compound, I felt a surge of adrenaline that reminded me of the moments before walking into the stadium for my graduation from nursing school. How exciting to see such a huge dream coming to fruition! I'll keep you posted on the progression of this incredible water project!

Twins Update

This morning I was thrilled to be able to do a well-baby visit with the twin sisters I told you about last month. (Click here to read about their birth.) There names are Ivene Chepchumba(left) and Ivone Jerop (right). It was Jerop who we did CPR on. And unbelievably she was the most alert and interactive of the two today. Thanks for your prayers for these precious little ones!
